The Boone County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed goals and objectives for the Boone County Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
The county is updating the plan, which serves as a guide for growth. The first step is updating the goals and objectives, which are the "steering factor for the whole plan," said Boone County planner Bob Jonas.
The Comprehensive Plan serves as the legal basis for the county's zoning, which is updated after the plan.
The draft of the 2005 goals and objects were written with input from about 35 people at two public meetings, planners and the Planning Commission's comprehensive-plan committee.
There are six new objectives, including assessing the impact of residential development on farms, traffic studies to assess the impact of development, considering farmers when building roads and water and sewer systems, and assessing the county's historic buildings.
The full planning commission will vote on the draft next month. It then will go to the county and three city governments for approval.
Over the next year, the commission will hold several public workshops to get comments on changes to other sections of the plan.
"The real meat and potatoes part of the plan will be this summer," Jonas said.
