Tax-evasion appeal backfires, bringing couple longer terms
Five years after appealing their conviction on tax evasion charges, a Colerain Township couple got another day in court.
But it didn't turn out the way they'd hoped: Daniel K. Stewart and his wife, Donna G. Stewart, ended up with longer prison sentences Monday than they had after their first trip to U.S. District Court in 1999.
The couple were convicted of tax evasion and conspiracy five years ago and sentenced to 18 months each in prison. They appealed in hopes of getting reduced sentences, but Judge Herman J. Weber decided he'd been too lenient the first time and gave Daniel Stewart 24 months and Donna Stewart 30 months.
Huber Heights man found guilty on lesser charges
LEBANON - A Huber Heights, Ohio, man was found guilty of felony charges in Warren County Common Pleas Court Tuesday, but was acquitted of attempted murder and kidnapping.
A prosecutor's news release said Bradley Willoughby, 18, had testified he put a knife to the throat of his ex-attorney, Jennifer Hughes of Springboro, and wrapped a phone cord around her throat.
Willoughby was found guilty of disrupting public service, assault, drug abuse and violating a temporary protection order.
