Rain reduces Flower Show attendance

Sprinkling skies over Coney Island kept the attendance at last week's 15th annual Cincinnati Flower Show - about 40,000 - from surpassing last year's fair-weather record of 55,000 visitors.

"Horticulturally speaking, this was, by far, the best show," says show director Mary Margaret Rochford of the Cincinnati Horticultural Society.

"Despite the rain, everybody liked the show. In fact, visitors asked for a two-day pass, which we will institute next year," she says.

The People's Choice Winner, voted as the show visitors' favorite exhibit, was "A Wizard's Garden," with trains and storybook tales, by Applied Imagination for the Hamilton County Park District. The design is a sneak peek at the new children's Highfield Discovery Garden, planned for a July opening at Glenwood Gardens in Woodlawn.
