Convergys wins OnStar contract
Cincinnati's Convergys Corp. will operate call centers in Troy, Mich., and Charlotte, N.C., for General Motors Corp.'s OnStar emergency assistance service under a $200 million contract announced this week. The work was done by Electronic Data Systems Corp. EDS will continue to manage OnStar's software and network. OnStar, with more than 2 million subscribers, uses the Global Positioning System to provide motorists with assistance.
GE Aircraft lands $120 million order
GE Aircraft Engines has won an order valued at more than $120 million to supply its CF6-80E1 engines for six Airbus A330-200 jetliners ordered by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Additionally, GE said KLM's engineering and maintenance division will become an overhaul center for CF6-80E1 engines.
UGS offers notes in pending sale
UGS PLM Solutions Inc., the engineering software supplier with a major operation near Milford, will offer $550 million in unregistered senior notes to pay for part of the $2 billion purchase of the company from Electronic Data Systems Inc. EDS is selling the business, which employs about 600 in the Park50 TechneCenter, to an investment group comprised of Bain Capital, Silver Lake Partners and Warburg Pincus.
