Speaking out

How can the church appeal more to young people?

Alyssa Finke "When I go to church, I listen for a while, then I daydream for half of the Mass. It's just so boring. Being a nun never was even an option for me...(To appeal to youth) I'd just make it more exciting... There should be Sunday school in every church, so the children can learn about God and not get bored."
- Alyssa Finke, 11, Northside fifth-grader at St. Boniface school in Northside

Doug Crooms "Make the studies a little funner. Have some music that a 7-year-old could sit down and listen to, not boring music. ... I'd rather have more fast music, more R&B and ... rap. We should put the Bible scripture to rap. I'd sit there and listen to it."
- Doug Crooms, 11, Bond Hillsixth-grader at St. Boniface

Rob Florian
"Keep telling them that money is not everything, that being a priest is a good way to help out people and give back to the community. "
- Rob Florian, 18, Green Township senior at Elder High in Price Hill

How does Catholicism appeal to you?

Charlie Coffaro "I usually come to communion service every day before lunch. It's a cool thing you couldn't do at a public school. It's a time of day when I can step back and evaluate what's going on in my life ... think of things that maybe I need to change or do better."
- Charlie Coffaro, 18, Green Township senior at Elder High in Price Hill
