An artist's journey

Cincinnati native and artist Daniel Greene returns to the area this week to present a free slide show of his work titled An Artist's Journey: Fifty Years of Painting. 7 p.m. today, Cincinnati Art Museum Auditorium, 953 Eden Park Drive, Eden Park. Free. 721-2787.

On the Same Page

Caryl Phillips will discuss and sign Crossing the River and answer questions 7 p.m. today at the University of Cincinnati's Tangeman University Center, Great Hall. Free.

Phillips will also do a live bit 8 p.m. on Channel 48. Wednesday.(Call-ins welcome).

He will sign and discuss the book noon Wednesday at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Edwards and Madison roads, Norwood.

His book is also subject of the Mercantile Library's Wednesday discussion group meeting at noon. 414 Walnut St., downtown. Free for members, $5 for non-members.

New releases

Tex-Mex: Los Lobos' new album The Ride includes tracks with guest vocalists Elvis Costello, Tom Waits and Cafe Tacuba (Hollywood Records; $18.98).

Less than hero: Highly-acclaimed United Kingdom art rock band Beta Band releases its fourth album, Heroes to Zeros (Astralwerks; $18.98).

Locke and loaded: Last season's American Idol second runner-up Kimberley Locke releases her first album, One Love (Curb Records; $18.98).

Soundtrack: Music - mostly pop - from the first season of Showtime's The L Word (Tommy Boy; $18.98).

Compilation: Totally Hits 2004, Volume 1. Pop and hip-hop (BMG Heritage; $18.98).

New on DVD/video

Two Oscar nominees are the best bets among this week's new home video releases, says Enquirer film critic Margaret A. McGurk: Tom Cruise's Japanese war movie, The Last Samurai, and the French animated musical The Triplets of Belleville. Also new this week is the charming English import Calendar Girls. .

The Cincinnati Art Museum's One World Wednesdays series concludes with a Parisian flair.
