Trade Secrets: Tips on dining in and dining out

Just in

Show Mom how sweet she really is by giving her a portrait of herself in chocolate. With the wizardry of technology, Stephen Siegert of Becca's Chocolates scans the photos into chocolate and then creates dark chocolate easels to hold the edible portraits. Siegert's chocolate creations, which cost $35, take about two days. Place orders at the Wine Store (9905 Montgomery Road) in Montgomery and Hyde Park Wine and Spirits (2719 Madison Road). Information: www.beccaschocolates.com.

Sips

If you love your mom, say it with a bottle of Ceja Syrah on Mother's Day. Pronounced "say-ha," this Sonoma County sophisticate would make a worthy present. The 2001 vintage ($29.99) has an aroma of blueberry and molasses. Full-bodied and dry, this red wine has a rich taste of black cherry, chocolate and cake spice. Smooth tannins complement a long, flavorful finish that reminds me of a strawberry tart. This is a beautiful wine.
