Marion J. Artmeier was nurse at Good Samaritan

Strong-willed woman had great sense of humor

By Nicole Hamilton
The Cincinnati Enquirer

TAYLOR MILL - When asked how people would remember his mother, Mark Artmeier didn't hesitate to answer.

"She was very strong and stubborn. And she had a great sense of humor," he said.

Marion J. Artmeier, a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Clifton for more than 40 years, died Thursday at Good Samaritan from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease). The Taylor Mill resident was 60.

In the later years of her career, Mrs. Artmeier was the charge nurse on the hospital's oncology floor. After being diagnosed with ALS a year ago, she stopped working at the hospital but never officially retired.

Reared in Erlanger, she graduated from St. Henry High School and earned a nursing degree before going to work at Good Samaritan Hospital.

"She loved being with her family - especially her grandkids. And she loved sewing, shopping and crocheting," her son said.

Besides her son, survivors include: her husband of 39 years, Jim Artmeier of Taylor Mill; three daughters, Michelle Willhoff of New Richmond, Krista Renfro of Hilton Head, S.C., and Jennifer Artmeier of Independence; three sisters; three brothers; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, 30 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Holy Cross Church, 3617 Church St., Latonia.

Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials may be made to Kentucky ALS Association, 2375 Fortune Drive, Lexington, KY 40509.
