HIGHLAND HEIGHTS - It is fitting that in a presidential election year, Northern Kentucky University's fall alumni lecture series will feature two men who sought the office.
Republican Bob Dole, who lost the 1996 presidential race to Bill Clinton, and Democrat George McGovern, who was beaten by Richard Nixon in 1972, will speak at the Oct. 5 event.
Both men also had long careers as U.S. senators. Dole was a darling of conservatives while McGovern was an icon to liberals.
"For us to be able to bring in Bob Dole and George McGovern for our 2004 Alumni Lecture speaks volumes about the importance of this annual event in Greater Cincinnati," NKU President Dr. James Votruba said.
Past lectures have featured former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Washington Post editor and author Bob Woodward, and former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo.
This year's lecture will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 at Regents Hall. NKU graduate Tricia Macke of Fort Thomas, an anchor on WXIX Fox news in Cincinnati, will serve as master of ceremonies.
