Third graders from several Catholic elementary schools have published a 36-page, full-color book filled with interesting facts about their school neighborhoods.
The students take Greta the flying pig on a tour of east-side neighborhoods after she gets lost.
Contributing to the book were students from the Eastern Catholic Alliance of Schools for Excellence. Alliance schools are: St. Francis deSales, Walnut Hills; St. Cecilia, Oakley; Our Mother of Sorrows, Roselawn; Prince of Pacelli, Mount Lookout; and St. Mary, Hyde Park.
The project was paid for with a Learning Links grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Copies will be sent to neighborhood libraries and schools.
Badin students raise funds for World Vision
HAMILTON - Sixty-four Stephen T. Badin High School students raised more than $2,000 during a recent "30-Hour Famine" held at St. John Neumann Church.
The money will go to World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization serving the world's poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries.
Information meeting for Orion Academy
SOUTH FAIRMOUNT - Parents who are interested in sending their children to Orion Academy, a new charter school opening in August, may attend an informational meeting Thursdayat Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1520 Queen City Ave.
The hour-long meeting begins at noon and repeats at 7 p.m. School board members and representatives from National Heritage Academies, the charter school company that will manage the school, will lead the presentation.
Orion will have room for 450 students in grades K-5. It will be housed in the former St. Bonaventure School building, 1798 Queen City Ave. Information: (800) 699-9235.
Two schools send mock trial teams
Yavneh Day School and Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Junior/Senior High School will send teams to compete in Friday's third annual Middle School Mock Trial Competition at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
The team is one of 20 groups that will argue for the defense and prosecution in The State of Rhode Island vs. C. Doyle, an original mock case from the Ohio Center for Law Related-Education.
McAuley's concert twice this week
COLLEGE HILL - McAuley High School's spring concert, "A Night at the Show," will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday in the school auditorium, 6000 Oakwood Ave.
There will be performances by the chorus, the orchestra, and the vocal ensemble.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $2.50 for students. They can be purchased at the door.
Queen of Angels presents two shows
MADISON PLACE - First- and second-grade students at Queen of Angels Montessori School will present the Tale of Peter Rabbit at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Wizard of Oz, done by the schools third- through fifth-graders, will follow.
Performances will be held at the Mariemont Community Center, 3908 Plainville Road. No admission charge.
St. Mark's Lutheran to hold open house
MILFORD - St. Mark's Lutheran School is accepting registration for students in grades preschool to 4 for the 2004-05 school year.
Those interested in learning more about the school can attend an open house from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the school, 5849 Buckwheat Road.
Those who can't attend may make an appointment to visit on another day.
