Kings to conduct telephone survey

DEERFIELD TWP. - About 500 residents in the Kings Local School District will get a phone call next week asking them to participate in a community attitude survey about the schools.

Registered voters will be asked by phone for their opinions on school-related topics, including the quality of education provided by the district, communication, finances and more.

Also included in the survey will be questions about building use and options to ease overcrowding at the junior/senior high school campus.

"It's very important that we get a clear, objective view of what our public wants of its schools," said Hale Husband, president of the Kings Board of Education.

More veterans may receive diplomas

FAIRFIELD - Another group of veterans may apply for diplomas from Fairfield Senior High School under a change in state law and district policy expected to be adopted next week.

Besides World War II veterans, those who served in the Korean War are eligible to receive a diploma if this criteria is met: the vet left school before graduating to serve in the armed forces, received an honorable discharge, is/was a resident of Ohio and has not been granted a similar diploma from another state.

The time of service for eligible veterans is Sept. 16, 1940, through Dec. 31, 1946, or from June 27, 1950, through Jan. 31, 1955.

Those interested should pick up forms from the Butler County Veterans Service Commission, 315 High St., first floor. Once forms have been reviewed and information verified, they would be forwarded to the school district for awarding of the diploma.

Design input sought on new Creekview school

MIDDLETOWN - A community forum to review ideas on the new Creekview Elementary School is set for 6:30 p.m. today in the school gymnasium, 301 Loretta Drive.

A design team has met once. Today residents may comment on the architectural style of the new buildings.

The school will be built on the site of the current Creekview. It will be funded from a $75.8 million bond issue approved last November that will pay for the elementary phase of the district's master plan.

Over the next five years, six elementary schools will be built, Verity Middle School will be converted to an elementary school and Amanda Elementary will be upgraded.

Students outside Monroe may enroll

MONROE - The Monroe Local School District will again open its doors to students outside its boundaries through an open enrollment policy.

The Monroe Board of Education will only accept students in grades 7-12. Applications must be picked up and returned in person to board offices, Overbeck Drive, Suite D, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through May 28.

Applicants will be notified of a decision by Aug. 15.

Mason High site of new-driver clinic

MASON - The New Driver Car Control Clinic for teens and their parents will be offered at Mason High School, 6100 S Mason-Montgomery Road, from May 21-23.

The clinic focuses on teaching parents and teens accident-avoidance maneuvers and defensive-driving skills. Teens need to have a learner's permit or license.

The program includes classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. Scheduled times are available at www.CarControl.com/cincinnati.htm or by calling (800) 862-3277.

Springboro High to perform 'Grease'

SPRINGBORO - The musical Grease will be performed at 8 p.m. today through Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday at the high school, 1675 S. Main St.
