Nelson highlighted by game's big names
Woods, Singh, Els, 'Lefty' all in field
The Associated Press
IRVING, Texas - The Big Four are in "Big D" this week.
Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson are part of a strong field at the Byron Nelson Championship, which offers the richest purse ($5.8 million) among regular PGA Tour events.
Singh is the defending champion, yet all of these guys have won the Nelson over the last 10 years.
"It's more or less like playing a major event where all the top guys are in the field, and I think everybody is looking forward to playing this week together in one tournament," Singh said.
The only one missing from the top six in the world ranking is Davis Love III (No. 4), the only one who has not won this year. Former Masters champion Mike Weir (No. 6) also is playing.
LPGA: Annika Sorenstam's not here. Neither is Grace Park or Se Ri Pak. Lorena Ochoa is, and thinks this might be the week that she finally wins her first LPGA event.
"This could be a good tournament for me to win," she said Wednesday after a practice round in the pro-am.
"It would be great. I'm very happy to be here, very excited. This is a very nice golf course and a very nice tournament. I hope to have a good week."
Ochoa ranks fifth on the money list, which makes her the top money winner at the inaugural Franklin American Mortgage Championship, beginning today at the Legends Club.
Ochoa, last year's rookie of the year, certainly seems primed for a victory.
Ochoa won 12 events while in college at Arizona, including eight in 10 tournaments during her sophomore year.
She debuted on tour last year by finishing second at Rochester, missed only one cut in 24 events and had eight top-10s. This year, she tied for 42nd in her first event but has finished in the top 10 in her last five tournaments.
Ochoa was tied for the lead after the third round last week at the Michelob Ultra Open and finished tied for second.
"To me, it's just a matter of time. I think right now I'm ready. (There's) high expectations and all the pressure is on me now, but by now I'm ready to win," she said.
