Train rolls to a halt after fuel runs out

FAIRFIELD - A CSX crew found themselves stranded Thursday when their locomotive ran out of fuel. The train came to a halt about 6 a.m. near the Hamilton/Fairfield border. It ended up blocking Symmes Road and North Gilmore, Fairfield Police Officer Russell Strickland said.

The crew remained with the stopped train. Although the area is heavily traveled, Strickland said he did not receive any complaints from motorists.

A locomotive from Cincinnati was called to pull the train to its final destination.

The campaign, "Slow Down to Get Around," includes TV and radio spots set to air this summer.

Rumpke, a Colerain Township-based waste hauler, owns or operates 10 landfills in the Tristate.

Commuter airline withdraws request

EAST END - The president of a Denver-based start-up airline company that applied to the city last year to offer scheduled passenger commercial service to Chicago from Lunken Airport has changed his mind.

David Cimo, president of JetLink Express Inc., terminated his plans this week for service to Lunken, saying he will conduct business elsewhere.

"We have decided to focus our attentions on that and in locations that are more commuter aviation-friendly," Cimo said.

Next week, Cincinnati City Council is expected to vote on a proposal to ban scheduled passenger commercial service.
