A 37-cent U.S. postage stamp depicting the new National World War II Memorial will be available May 29, the day the monument is dedicated on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The stamp's design is a computer-generated image of the memorial showing its 43-foot high arches and a section of the 56 pillars representing the U.S. states and territories that sent soldiers, sailors and Marines to war during WWII.
Collectors who want a first-day-of-issue can buy the stamps at local post offices, online at www.usps.com, or call 800-STAMP-24. Stamps should be affixed to an envelope, addressed and placed in a larger envelope addressed to National World War II Memorial Commemorative Stamp, Postmaster, WWII First Day of Issue, 900 Brentwood Road NE, Washington, D.C. 20066-9998.
First-day covers will remain on sale for a year and can be ordered through the U.S. Postal Service's quarterly philatelic catalog. A free catalog can be obtained by calling 800-STAMP-24.
