Local independent moviemakers have a chance to hop on the cicada-invasion bandwagon thanks to a newly launched short-film contest.
The organizers of "Lite Brite Indie Pop & Film Festival," slated for July 23-25 at the Southgate House in Newport, have unleashed a Brood X Contest, seeking films and videos, no more than 5 minutes long, that document the 17-year phenomenon. Entry forms are available online at www.LiteBriteTest.com.
Billed as "an organized collision of two frontiers," the Lite Brite fest will showcase local and regional independent musicians, as well as their artistic brethren from the moving-image world.
The event will feature the top five works from the 2003 Underneath Cincinnati local-film series, as well as the best entries from the Brood X Contest.
The organizers also plan to project some films on the side of the shuttered Newport on the Levee Imax theater across the street from Southgate House.
