XU - Xavier University and Edgecliff College alumni will gather for the 2004 Reunion Weekend June 3-6 at Xavier's Evanston campus.
This is the 11th year for reunion weekend, and hundreds of alumni are expected to attend. They can participate in events such as a golf scramble, lectures and class cocktail parties. Alumni can also attend the seventh annual Classes Without Quizzes seminars. The eight seminars are on topics like Tai Chi, Jesuit higher education history and challenges, wine tasting and gender communication.
The reunion will wind up with a 9 a.m. memorial Mass in the Cintas Center followed by the Half-Century Club brunch at the Cintas Center banquet center.
The brunch will honor Xavier and Edgecliff class members of 1954 who are being inducted into the Half-Century Club. The inductees will receive a "Doctor of Durability" award.
Bielski becomes VP, dean at More
THOMAS MORE - Bradley Bielski has been named vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Thomas More College.
Bielski received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1986 and then a Ph.D. in 1991. He has taught at UC, Raymond Walters College, Northern Kentucky University and Thomas More, where he holds the rank of associate professor.
He has been chairman of the chemistry department at Thomas More since 2002, has served as chairman of the Faculty General Assembly for the college, and has been a member of the college's board of trustees since 2002.
Ex-CPS executive in post at Mount
THE MOUNT - Kathleen T. Ware, former associate superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools, has been named interim chairwoman of the Department of Education, the largest academic department at the College of Mount St. Joseph with nearly 400 education majors. The department serves students from all majors at the college who are seeking a teaching license in their discipline.
Ware has been director of the Mount's accelerated teacher education and apprenticeship master's degree program since 2002. Her career in education and administration spans almost 40 years, school officials say.
Ware succeeds Clarissa Rosas, who has stepped down as department chairwoman to teach in the Mount's special education program.
English professor's service recognized
MIAMI - English professor Don Daiker is the first recipient of an award created by the University Honors and Scholars Program at Miami University. It aims to recognize distinguished and long-term service to the program.
The Honors and Scholars Program advisory committee, which is made up of students, faculty and staff, selected Daiker.
He has taught more than a dozen university honors courses and has advised many honors theses dating back to the 1980s. He has served as an adviser for more than 60 students in the Undergraduate Associates Program, which is designed to help undergraduate students consider whether to become faculty members.
