Parents can learn how to get care
Hamilton County officials will discuss Wednesday how to ensure parents can get needed mental health treatment for their kids without surrendering custody to the county. Statewide, parents of up to 1,800 children have given up custody to get care, and two of the three Hamilton County commissioners say they want to make sure parents here aren't forced to make such choices. The meeting between commissioners and leaders at the county Job and Family Services agency had been set for Monday. Instead, it will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on the sixth floor of 138 E. Court St., downtown. Commissioners' meetings are open to the public.
School seeks active fund-raisers
Students at New Haven Elementary School in Boone County will no longer be selling candy, wrapping paper and knick-knacks to raise money. The New Haven PTA has decided to end the annual catalog sale - a ubiquitous fund-raiser at public schools - that generates about $25,000 a year for the K-5 school in Union. The PTA has decided to switch to fund-raisers that stress exercise and nutrition, such as walk-a-thons, as part of a schoolwide commitment to physical fitness.
TRAFFIC WATCH
Northbound Interstate 75/71 will be restricted to one lane between the Buttermilk Pike and Kyles Lane exits from 8 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. Sunday. It will be restricted to two lanes from 9 a.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday. Also, the ramp from Dixie Highway to northbound I-75/71 is closed until 6 p.m. Monday.
