County helps Delhi area
to get rid of rat infestation
DELHI TOWNSHIP - Officials at the Hamilton County General Health District said Monday that a rat infestation confined to 10 homes along Gilcrest Drive should be eradicated within 10 days.
Chris Eddy, director of environmental health, said inspectors are helping neighbors combat the problem with poisons and are considering baiting the sewer system to ensure the problem is eliminated.
Eddy attributed the source of the infestation to "a neighbor feeding wild animals over the winter and he got a little sloppy with it." Eddy said rodents tend to flock to open food sources.
"If you provide the buffet line for them, then they are going to hang around," Eddy said.
Health officials said these types of infestations are fairly common in townships and do not warrant a serious health concern.
