Yo, yo, yo, dawg! Having helped anoint pop stars as a judge on American Idol, Randy Jackson is now hosting a quarterly series in which established idols will get a chance to jam with artists who inspired them.
On June 15, VH1 will air the first installment (8 p.m.) of "In Tune Presented by Bailey's (a partner, along with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame).
It pairs 26-year-old singer-songwriter John Mayer with 62-year-old singer-songwriter Paul Simon.
Jackson describes their camaraderie, which entails conversation as well as solo and duet performances, as "a private moment with these two guys, getting to know each other, sharing information, just vibing."
Adds Mayer, ". . . You need a fundamental musical trait, and there's no other phrase for it but 'plays well with others.' "
