City teachers vote yes on contract

CINCINNATI - The three-year contract for Cincinnati teachers is official after union members overwhelmingly approved revisions Tuesday and Wednesday. Voting results, released Thursday, showed 97 percent of union members who voted approved the changes, according to the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers. The vote was 2,437 to 66. A state-appointed fact-finder made the contract revisions after the school board rejected a tentative agreement in March. The board on Monday also accepted the fact-finder's recommendations. Board members voted 4-2 with one abstention. The contract includes a 3.2 percent pay increase for the district's 3,500 teachers, psychologists, counselors and nurses retroactive to Jan. 1 with smaller raises the next two years.

Anti-terror funds go to water works

Two water treatment departments in Greater Cincinnati have an extra $1.5 million collectively in federal homeland security grants to spend on enhancing security. Cincinnati Water Works will receive $1 million to beef up security at its three plants. The Hamilton water department was awarded $553,900 for its two plants. A total of $5 million will be handed out to eight water districts across the state, including $500,000 to Dayton, $1.6 million to Cleveland and $406,000 each to Toledo and Akron.

Dinosaurs take time getting here

AVONDALE - The opening of Dino Zone, the new summer exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, has been postponed until June 10 because of a delay in the manufacturing and shipment of the life-size animatronic dinosaurs. The exhibit had been scheduled to open today. But guests can visit Dino Island-The Ride, the zoo's new motion-theater experience. Information: 281-4700 or online at www.cincinnati zoo.org.

CORRECTION: Sherlock still Nativity pastor

The Rev. Marc Sherlock, pastor of Nativity Church, requested a change of assignment in February and then went on a month's sabbatical. He is still pastor until June 30. He becomes pastor of St. John the Baptist in Tipp City on July 1. A story in Thursday's Local News section contained incorrect information.
