Music teacher wins top award


Ursuline selects Robin Bierschenk

BLUE ASH - Robin Bierschenk has been named the winner of Ursuline Academy's Sister Xavier Ladrigan Excellence in Education Award.

The award is the highest honor an Ursuline faculty member can receive.

Bierschenk, of West Chester Township, directs Ursuline's music department and has tripled the number of students involved in one or more musical groups she oversees.

Open audition for summer production

READING - Tryouts for Mount Notre Dame High School's summer production, Seussical, will be held Friday and Sunday at the school, 711 E. Columbia Ave.

Friday's open audition will run from 4-7 p.m. On Sunday, auditions are 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Actors and technicians are needed.

The musical will be presented July 23-25 and July 30-31.

Our Lady of Victory honors new retiree

DELHI TWP. - A longtime Our Lady of Victory School teacher who is retiring this week will be honored during the school's 8:30 a.m. closing liturgy Friday.

Beatrice Perry has taught in Catholic schools for 44 years, 37 of them at Our Lady of Victory.

The community is invited to the 8:30 a.m. Mass at the school, 810 Neeb Road.

Physics work brings international award

PARK HILLS - A Notre Dame Academy science student has placed third in the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Senior Monica Summe achieved a third place award in physics at the world level. She created a system in which bacteria in mud from freshwater ponds produced electricity.

She will continue working with Hazel Barton at Northern Kentucky University, who served as adviser.

Art student's batik will go on U.S. tour

COLLEGE HILL - McAuley High School senior Avery Halter will go to New York next week to receive the National Scholastics Art Awards Gold Medal for a batik, titled "St. Mary's Cathedral."

Her work will be framed and then sent on a national tour.

DeSales School has openings for fall

EVANSTON - Registration for the 2004-05 school year at St. Francis DeSales School will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the school, 1602 Madison Road. The school offers grades K-8.
