'American Idol' tour coming to a city near you

The Associated Press

The American Idol tour, a showcase for Clay Aiken wannabes and soulful future Kelly Clarksons, marks the third year of the competition, and will stop in Cincinnati Aug. 4.

Fantasia There was plenty of controversy this time around, especially about "fixed" voting after diva and viewer favorite, La Toya London, was surprisingly voted off instead of Jasmine Trias.

Where: Arenas and pavilions across the United States.

What to expect: Screaming prepubescent girls, mothers and grandmothers, possible diva sing-offs, horribly choreographed group numbers, awkward renditions of Neil Diamond and Tony Bennett songs.

Biggest artists: This season's winner, Fantasia Barrino; Simon Cowell's "little Seabiscuit," finalist Diana DeGarmo; and fan favorite Jon Peter Lewis.

Songs you'll wanna hear: LaToya and Fantasia belting out classic soul covers.

Songs they can leave off the list: Any disco songs, covers of Gloria Estefan's music (but hey, anything is better than hearing William Hung sing "She Bangs.")

Among the stops

July 28, Detroit, Joe Louis Arena

July 29, Cleveland, Cleveland State University

July 31, Columbus, Value City Arena

Aug. 1, Indianapolis, Conseco Fieldhouse

Aug. 3, Evansville, Ind., Roberts Stadium

Aug. 4, Cincinnati, U.S. Bank Arena

Aug. 5, Chicago, United Center

For tickets for the Cincinnati show, call U.S. Bank Arena ticket office, 421-4111, or go to Ticketmaster.com for information on all shows.
