Memorial show helps future poets
COVINGTON - One year after the death of Eric D. Meyer, a memorial show will be held Saturday at 8 p.m. at Radio Down on Sixth Street in Covington to raise money for a poetry scholarship named in his honor at Northern Kentucky University.
Meyer was an NKU student who died in an apartment fire in Clifton's gaslight district on May 29, 2003, at age 25. His girlfriend, Elea Mihou, who was rescued from the fire, has helped Meyer's family establish and endow the fund, which is currently at $14,000.
The first scholarship was awarded at NKU in the spring. The goal is to raise $25,000 so a significant annual scholarship will be available to poetry students at NKU.
Bands Junior Revolution, So-Steve, Jeremy & Tim, The Great Modern and Krinj will all play at the memorial show Saturday. A $6 donation will be required at the door.
Contributions also may be mailed to the NKU Foundation, care of the Herrmann Center, Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, KY 41099.
