Think you're too old for summer camp? Think again.
Adults have a choice of at least two camps in Greater Cincinnati this summer, if you don't mind packing a Bible - or at least a spiritually open mind - along with the bug spray.
The Southwest Ohio Assembly Camps is offering a weekend camp for 18-year-olds to twentysomethings June 11-13 at the Camp Lebanon Retreat Center in Oregonia.
Billed as an opportunity for young adults to build relationships and grow spiritually, the camp will feature music from Christian bands and talks by the Rev. Tom Planck of New Life Community Church in Cincinnati. It's $50 for the weekend or $10 for the worship gatherings. Information and registration: www.swoacamps.com or (513) 759-6040 or (937) 673-6992.
Amuuse Camps for Singles, run by the Unitarian Universalist Association, is opening a new overnight camp this summer at Grailville, a 300-acre education and retreat center, in Loveland.
From June 13-19, campers of all religions who are 18 and over will spend mornings discussing spiritual practices, drawing, relaxing, meditating or learning the art of massage. Afternoons will be free for classic camp activities such as hiking and swimming (and there's also the very nontraditional Starbucks nearby). Social events such as costume parties and campfire sing-alongs will take place in the evenings.
The Roaring '20s-themed week costs $475. Information and registration: www.amuuse.org or call associate director and camp registrar Susan Stewart at (317) 891-2684.
