Head to East Fork State Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for a free sneak peek at a proposed new hike and bike trail in Clermont County.
During "Run, Walk and Roll Day at the Park," participants can follow a 6.2-mile section of the proposed 13.3-mile Williamsburg-Batavia Hike/Bike trail, along with exhibits, displays and demonstrations from several organizations.
A Walk-A-Thon kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Other highlights of the day include a live animal demonstration from the Cincinnati Zoo at 11:15 a.m. and a naturalist-led hike at 12:15 p.m.
The trail will be open to runners, walkers, hikers, cyclists and rollerbladers Saturday, organizers say. Parts of the trail are flat, and parts are more challenging.
"People will be able to come out and see the trail and pristine sections of Clermont County and its wildlife," says Batavia Township administrator Rex Parsons.
On a recent visit, he says, "we saw deer. We saw fox. We saw turkeys."
The proposed trail is part of a long-standing plan to develop existing roadways through the park to connect the villages of Williamsburg and Batavia, Parsons says.
