Courtney Kupets and Carly Patterson shared the all-around title in Nashville, Tenn. Terin Humphrey was third. Cincinnati native Mohini Bhardwaj was 12th. The top 12 advance to the Olympic trials June 24-27 in Anaheim.
Terin Humphrey, Courtney McCool; Allyse Ishino; Liz Tricase; Tabitha Yim; Tia Orlando; Tasha Schwikert; Nicole Harris; Carly Janiga and Bhardwaj joined Kupets and Patterson in making the cut. Ashley Postell, a world champion on balance beam two years ago, and Katie Heenan, a world bronze medalist on uneven bars in 2001, did not.
The top two finishers at trials earn spots at a selection camp at the Karolyi ranch north of Houston in early July, and at least seven other gymnasts also will be invited. After a two-day competition, women's team coordinator Martha Karolyi and a selection committee will choose the six-woman team and three alternates.

YOUTH REGATTA: Oakland Strokes won their heats in both the junior men's and women's eights in the first day of competition at the USRowing National Youth Invitational Regatta on Harsha Lake in Amelia.
Horse racing
CHURCHILL DOWNS: Lunarpal, 1-to-9 favorite under Shane Sellers, edged Consolidator by a neck to win the Grade III Kentucky Breeders' Cup for 2-year-olds.
OHIO DERBY: Limehouse, fourth in the Kentucky Derby and third in the Blue Grass Stakes, is expected to head a field of 3-year-olds for Saturday's 70th Grade II race at Cleveland's Thistledown.
ENGLISH DERBY: North Co-favorite Light won the $2.3 million race by 1 1/2 lengths at Epsom, giving jockey Kieren Fallon his second straight victory in the 225th running of the race.

ATLANTA SIGNS SIPOTZ: The NHL Atlanta Thrashers have agreed to terms with Miami University senior defenseman Brian Sipotz, 22. The 6-7, 245-pounder shared fourth on the RedHawks with a plus-nine rating, and also set career highs with three assists, three points and 36 games last season.
The South Bend, Ind., native had five assists and 139 penalty minutes in 119 games over four seasons with MU. Atlanta selected him in the fourth round (100th overall) in the 2001 NHL entry draft.

FREEDOM SWEPT: The Washington (Pa.) Wild Things swept the Florence Freedom (6-9) in a three-game series, defeating them 3-2 Saturday.
