Fashions on parade Friday in the annual Fashion Extravaganza under the big top at the University of Cincinnati are proof that student inspiration can pop up anywhere.

Sophomore Sara Baughn, 19, of Kettering designed a trio of teen and pre-teen outfits zapped with colors based on the virtual pet Tamagotchi. Amy Knowlton of Springfield, also a sophomore, based her chiffon and sequin-glittered girl's skirt and jacket with a nod to the board game Life with the T-shirt reading "payday" and the lining in a money print.

This year's show, with the work of 100 students in UC's fashion design program, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday under a big white tent complete with a red carpet.

The show wraps up DAAPWORKS, the art and design exhibition of the class of 2004 throughout the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, beginning today with music and a grill-out from 5-9 p.m. The DAAP exhibit is free ($5 for grill-out). Friday's fashion show is $35. Ticket information: 981-3227.
