BLANCHESTER - A memorial to women who are victims of domestic abuse, born out of the disappearance of Carrie Culberson, will be dedicated June 28here.
Culberson went missing Aug. 29, 1996. Her boyfriend, Vincent Doan, was convicted of her murder, though her body has not been found.
In 1997, Culberson's family filed a wrongful death suit against the village of Blanchester and former Police Chief Richard Payton. In a settlement, Blanchester agreed to donate land near the police station and $10,000 for the memorial. It was created by Nancy-Carolyn Smith of Loveland.
The dedication was postponed from April 30 while investigators dug in Brown County in a vain search for Culberson's remain.
Speaking at the ceremony will be Bill Peelle, Clinton County prosecutor; Harry Brumbaugh, former mayor of Blanchester; Alphonse A. Gerhardstein, attorney for the Culberson family; Laura Curliss, president of the Clinton County Domestic Violence Coalition; Debra Culberson, Carrie's mother; and artist Smith.
The dedication is 7 p.m. at the Blanchester Police Station, 318 E. Main St.
