Boat races today on Ohio River

DOWNTOWN - More than 40 powerful offshore race boats compete Sunday on the Ohio River between Sawyer Point and Newport on the Levee. Races start at noon and continue through the afternoon, capping off a full weekend of free events, food, drinks and games at Sawyer Point. Local boat owners can register to race if their boat passes inspection. Speeds average 70-140 mph. Information: www.cincinnatirace.com.

Fine Arts Fund allocates money

DOWNTOWN - The Fine Arts Fund has allocated $9,857,390 of the $10,404,560 raised during this year's annual campaign. The largest recipient of funds was the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, which received approximately 30 percent of the total.

Awards to the Big Eight are: Cincinnati Art Museum, $1,787,722; Cincinnati Ballet, $912,908; Cincinnati Opera, $1,018,657; Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, $1,161,870; Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, $3,029,081; Contemporary Arts Center, $486,395; May Festival, $360,045, Taft Museum of Art, $336,315.

ArtWorks and Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington are new associate members of the Fund, bringing that total to 11: Arts Consortium of Cincinnati, $32,351; ArtWorks, $36,000; Carnegie Arts Center, $23,000; The Children's Theatre, $53,957, and Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, $27,216.

Also, Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival, $39,304; Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, $85,781; Fitton Center for Creative Arts, $51,219; Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, $47,596; Madcap Productions Puppet Theatre, $45,625; Theatre IV, $40,750.

Forum's focuses: police, community

AVONDALE - The Urban League of Greater Cincinnati hosts a 3 p.m. town hall meeting Tuesday on police use of force and its impact on the relationship between officers and the community. It will beat the league office, 3458 Reading Road. Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher will attend.Information: 487-6503.

Rodent problem to be addressed

DELHI TOWNSHIP - The Hamilton County General Health District holds a community meeting 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at Delhi Township Lodge, 5125 Foley Road, to address the recent problem with rats in and around the Hillcrest Lane neighborhood.

Rodent-prevention measures will be discussed.

TRAFFIC WATCH

Bridge repair continues on the U.S. 42/Clay Wade Bailey Bridge, with one lane open to traffic in each direction. Northbound traffic from Covington is diverted at Second Street in Cincinnati, as the block between Second Street and Third Street is closed. There is no access to Second Street southbound.
