Gettelfinger in 'Scoundrels'
College-Conservatory of Music 1999 grad Sara Gettelfinger has plenty of Broadway chorus roles under her belt, including Seussical: The Musical, and briefly had her name on a Broadway theater marquee when she took over a lead role in Nine last year. Now she's poised to become an overnight success.
According to Broadway.com, Gettelfinger has joined the cast of new musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, starring John Lithgow. She'll play a country bumpkin who gets caught up in the snare of a pair of con artists.
Scoundrels opens at the Old Globe in San Diego in September before a planned Broadway move in early 2005. It will be directed by the regional theater's artistic director Jack O'Brien. He has just scored back-to-back Tony Award wins for directing Hairspray and Henry IV, which bodes well for Scoundrel.
Gettelfinger is currently wrapping up a turn in the new musical Tom Jones at North Shore Music Theatre near Boston. Her cast mates include CCM grad Angela Gaylor.
CCM alums in St. Louis
CCM's summer series Hot Summer Nights may be no more, but there are plenty of hot summer nights in St. Louis, where the famed Municipal Light Opera (the Muny) is featuring almost a score of CCM students and alums this summer.
Alum Lauren Kennedy will play Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's, several incoming sophomores and juniors are filling up the chorus of Annie and the half dozen CCMers in Meet Me in St. Louis include 2004 grads Ashley Brown, Betsey Wolfe and Matthew Risch.
