North Shore, 8 p.m., Channels 19, 45.

Last week's premiere was promising with hints that this Hawaiian drama could have some brains, alongside its beauty.

The show had one flaw, though: Everyone was too smooth, too steady, with few rough edges.

Now Tessa Lewis has filled that gap. Played by Amanda Righetti, she's a scam artist, a drinker and a troubled soul with no people or money to lean on.

Yes, she has an attractive exterior. (This is Fox, after all.) She also has a tattered soul.

Tonight's hour has the hotel owner (James Remar) trying to please an overbearing critic from a travel magazine. It continues the ex-lover angst of its two stars (Kristoffer Polaha and Brooke Burns).

The latter story line will quickly tax viewers' patience. So will Tessa's ex-boyfriend, who seems to have been parachuted in from a bad daytime soap.

The rest of North Shore, however, is interesting - especially now that it's added some tatters.

Worth watching

My Wife and Kids, 8 p.m., Channels 9, 2. It's another night of transplanted comedy reruns on ABC. In this episode, Jay and Claire have a mother-daughter talk about sex.

Salem's Lot conclusion, 8 and 10 p.m., TNT. Last week's opener was a serious and involving look at a writer (Rob Lowe) who returned to the town where he spent part of his childhood. Tonight, things get messier. Horror film lovers will be delighted but others will think the first half was better.

Kim Possible: A Stitch in Time, 8 p.m., Disney Channel. Kim and her friends zip back and forth in time in a surprisingly witty cartoon movie.

Everybody Loves Raymond, 9 p.m., Channels 12, 7This rerun isn't one of the funnier Raymond episodes, but credit it for trying something different. One remarkable, 14-minute scene simply has Ray and Robert talking, in the front of a car. It's always interesting and sometimes funny.

Who Wants to Marry My Dad? season-opener, 10:05 p.m., Channels 5, 22. Meet Marty, a handsome chap who lets his three grown daughters choose a potential new wife for him. The opener gets much too weepy, at times; the daughters shed tears for people they've barely met. Still, these folks are likable enough to keep us watching.
