DEERFIELD TWP. - Voters in the Kings school district will likely see a 5.9-mill, continuing operating levy on the November ballot after school board members decided Monday evening on the size of the tax issue it will need.
The Kings Board of Education will not formally vote until the board's Aug. 17 meeting - to meet Ohio's fall ballot deadline of Aug. 19 - on the school levy. If approved by voters, it would raise the annual school tax on a $100,000 home in the Warren County community by $180.
Board members said winning voter approval for the 5.9-mill school levy would allow the financially troubled district to cover a $2 million budget deficit projected for 2006.
Lebanon council considers zoning case
LEBANON - City Council could decide tonight whether to rezone about 30 acres near the high school to professional office use.
The land, now zoned for residences, is at the southeast corner of North Broadway and the Miller Road extension.
The new zoning, should it be approved, would allow uses such as banks and office buildings, but not retail or residential.
City council heard little public comment at a June 8 hearing on the rezoning.
Council will vote on the rezoning tonight at 7:30 at city hall, 50 S. Broadway.
Anderson Chamber nears hiring decision
ANDERSON TWP. - The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce is in its final stages of a search for a new executive director.
Jerry Grove is retiring after 14 years as director. He has been involved in the chamber since its 1970 inception. In 1978, he joined the board of directors.
The change comes as Anderson gains new businesses and its mall is under redevelopment to include the nation's largest Kroger store.
The former Beechmont Mall, now called Anderson Towne Center, is scheduled to open in November.
