'Justice center' dropped from name

FAIRFIELD - The words "justice center" have been erased from the city's proposed $10-million downtown building at Nilles Road and Pleasant Avenue.

Residents and council members now will hear the 45,000square-foot complex called the Municipal Court and Police Services building, said Art Pizzano, city manager.

Pizzano has changed the name because some residents thought the city planned to build a jail on the 8.5-acre former Kroger site opposite the city building. The Hamilton County jail in downtown Cincinnati is called the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Construction will begin early next year on the building, which replaces the police-court headquarters in the former Duff's restaurant on Ohio 4, across from Fairfield Central Elementary School, Pizzano said.

Job, career support group kicks off

LIBERTY TWP. - A job and career support group open to all area residents will hold its inaugural meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethany United Methodist Church, 6388 Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

Career consultant Vicki Wolfe will discuss "Handling the Stress of Career Transition" at the meeting. Future sessions are planned for resume and letter writing, interviewing techniques and other topics, says organizer Wayne Bradshaw.

Developers may have to pay fees upfront

LEBANON - Warren County commissioners are looking at making developers pay all their fees to the water and sewer department upfront.

Now the county reserves space in the water and sewer system for the proposed homes in a new subdivision.

But developers don't pay the fees until they get the building permits.

The proposed change would make developers pay the fees when the final plats are approved, even if homes might not be built immediately.

County Sanitary Engineer Richard Renneker says since there is money involved in the process, the change would shift "the burden to the developer."
