Recovery Services sets '05 budget

Neighbors round-up

Staff/Wire reports

LEBANON - An agency that provides alcohol, drug addiction and mental health services has appointed new leadership and set its budget for fiscal year 2005, which starts Thursday. Appointed this month to the board of Mental Health Recovery Services of Warren & Clinton Counties are Jim Myers of Blanchester, chair; Carol Heil of Lebanon, vice chair; and Terry Miller of Wilmington, secretary.

The agency increased its operating budget by 1 percent to $12.5 million, including nearly $1 million in administrative costs.

Dog parade to benefit shelter

NORWOOD - A dog parade to raise money for Save The Animals Foundation, a no-kill shelter, will take place on the Fourth of July in Norwood.

The Dog Daze of Norwood parade will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Waterworks Park. Registration is 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. July 4 in the lower parking lot next to the east entrance to Shea Stadium.

The registration fee for the first dog in a family is $3. Additional family dogs can be registered for a can of dog food each. All dogs should be leashed.

The parade is being organized by Citizens for a Better Norwood. Information: Rick Hursh, 841-0039.

Chevy owners get revved up for show

WEST CHESTER TWP. - The ultimate Chevy cruise-in is coming to the Cincinnati Marriott North at Union Centre next year.

As many as 500 Chevrolets could pull in for the 31st annual Classic Chevy International show July 19-24 next year, says Gib Reiss, a township service department employee who is helping organize the show.

Reiss, who owns a '57 Chevy two-door, says the show will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1955 Chevrolet made at General Motors' old Norwood plant. Owners of Chevys from 1955-1972, and Camaros from 1967-2002, will be invited to the show hosted by the Gem City Classics car club of Dayton and West Chester, he says.

Volunteers and potential corporate sponsors can contact Reis at his Carlisle home (937) 743-3070, or at gibreiss57@aol.com.

Therapy sessions address sex abuse

LEBANON - A pilot program for sexually abused children and non-offending family members begins in September.

Warren County Parents and Children Together (PACT) will offer group therapy sessions for victims, while siblings and parents simultaneously meet in separate groups. Up to a dozen families will participate in the first 15-week session and another session to follow next year.

Twenty-one families are eligible for the program, said officials with Mental Health Recovery Services of Warren County.

The pilot is being funded through $35,000 in grants from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Warren County Foundation and Cinergy Foundation.
