Soccer update: Cincinnati Ladyhawks

The Enquirer

A weekly look at Cincinnati's minor-league soccer team.

Week in Review: The Ladyhawks traveled to Chicago this past weekend and left with a split, losing Friday to the Chicago Cobras 3-0 and defeating the Windy City Bluez 1-0 Saturday. Andrea Cunningham recorded the lone goal Saturday to give the Ladyhawks their first win of the 2004 W-League campaign.

Key Players: Cunningham was pivotal in creating chances in both games. In goal, Andrea Garber saw her first extended action of the season against Windy City, and came up big on several occasions to preserve the shutout. She recorded eight saves. Chicago's Liz Bogus was the difference Friday. Her two goals in the second half, combined with her ability to pressure throughout the game, proved too much for the Ladyhawks.

Injuries: Midfielder Ashley Garcia continues her recovery from a tonsillectomy, though she played in both games over the weekend. Erica Nollen (D, infection) and Katie Fouchts (F, stress fracture) are both expected to return this weekend.

Up Next: The Ladyhawks host Windy City on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Lakota West. Windy City's veteran forward Annette Kent, the team's leading scorer the last three seasons, leads the Bluez. Ladyhawks defenders Kara Gostisha and Melissa Miller will have to work hard to shut her down again.
