Dokic (above), of Australia, has won five WTA titles, including at Rome and Moscow. In 2000, she reached the singles semifinals at the U.S. Open and Wimbledon. She is ranked No. 25 in the world. Testud, of France, reached the quarterfinals of the 1997 U.S. Open and the 1998 Australian Open. She has won three WTA titles and is ranked 11th.
Keeping up with the Joneses
Smarty Jones is having an impact on the horse-naming game, as owners and breeders are using the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner as inspiration for naming their own horses. Since May 14 - a day before the Preakness - The Jockey Club's registry has approved eight Smarty Jones-like names: Party Jones, Sleepy Jones, Smarty Me, Like Smarty, Smarty Who, Smarty Dee, Smarty Joe and Smarty Brown. Some owners even have renamed their horses, hoping a little of Smarty Jones' good fortune will come their way. One example: Hastalavista Baby, a 3-year-old filly, was renamed Smarty Me in May and won in her debut June 15 - by 8 1/4 lengths. "I was surprised when I first heard about it," said Pat Chapman, one of Smarty Jones' owners, "but then I remembered that I once named a cat after Tug McGraw."
