No status change for missing soldier
There was no change Friday in the status of Spc. Keith "Matt'' Maupin, the Clermont County soldier who was captured in April by Iraqi militants. Maj. Mark Magalski, the Army casualty assistance officer who has been aiding the Maupin family, said Pentagon officials continue to examine a video aired Monday on Al-Jazeera television that showed a person in a desert camouflage uniform shot in the head. But military officials still have found no reason to say it is the 20-year-old Union Township soldier. Maupin, an Army Reservist, was listed as missing April 9 after his military convoy was attacked.
Drake gets grant for spinal study
Researchers at the Drake Center have received a two-year, $80,000 grant to expand study of an electrical stimulation device that could help improve motor skills for people with partial spinal cord injuries. Drake Center treats about 70 new cases a year of partial or incomplete spinal cord injury. Initial tests on four patients using the StimMaster Galaxy device, made by Electrologic Inc., reported significant improvement in stride length and reduced muscle spasms. The expanded testing will include up to 24 patients.
