LORAIN, Ohio - A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody in the shooting death of his father.
Wade Hetsler, 48, of Lorain, was found dead Sunday in a sleeping bag in a second-floor bedroom of his house, said police Lt. Jim Rohner. Police arrived at the home shortly after Hetsler's son called 911 at 8:21 a.m.
The teenager was being held in the Lorain County Detention Home pending formal charges, which were expected to be filed today, Rohner said.
Police found several weapons in the house, including one believed to be used in the crime, he said.
Hetsler had joint custody of his two sons, who were spending the holiday weekend with him. Police released Hetsler's 10-year-old son to a relative.
Hetsler was described by his brother, Leslie Hetsler, as a religious and hardworking man who often worked double shifts at a Cleveland factory to help pay for his sons' education at a Christian school.
He also was an accomplished vocalist who sang in a church choir.
Leslie Hetsler said his brother became concerned several days ago when he found shotgun shells in the 15-year-old's backpack.
"My brother had a couple guns, and he kept telling me he was going to get rid of them," Leslie Hetsler said. "After finding the shells, I'm kind of surprised he didn't."
