VERMILION, Ohio - The Coast Guard has called off the search for a man missing in Lake Erie, saying it would not be resumed unless some new information was received.
Chance Houser, 23, of Sheffield, was on a fishing trip Saturday with friend Matthew Derry, 23, of Lorain on Derry's 25-foot cabin cruiser.
Another boater plucked Derry from the water on Saturday.
Derry said he had jumped into the water to save Houser, who had gone after a loose anchor rope and started shouting for help.
He said the two held onto each other and struggled to say afloat, but soon lost touch.
Derry said he drifted for about two hours before a boater pulled him to safety about two miles north of Vermilion.
Derry's boat was recovered about five miles away.
