Unidentified man found dead in river

Public safety briefs

The Enquirer

BELLEVUE - Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man whose body was found floating Monday afternoon in the Ohio River near the Riverside 4 Boat Harbor.

An employee of the boat harbor in the 100 block of Lafayette Avenue discovered the body about 3:25 p.m, said Police Lt. Jim Rees. The body appeared to have been in the water "no more than two days" and there were no visible signs of foul play, he said.

There was no identification on the body.

The man is described as white, in his early to mid-20s, about 5-feet-8, 175 pounds, with short dark hair, a mustache and goatee and a tattoo of a cougar on his upper left arm. He was wearing blue jean shorts, a white T-shirt and white and blue gym shoes.

Anyone with information on the identity of the man is asked to call Campbell County Police Department at (859) 292-3622.

Boy playing with gun shoots 4-year-old

WESTWOOD - A 4-year-old Covington boy was shot in the head Sunday and an 8-year-old is facing charges as a result.

According to a Cincinnati police report, the 8-year-old obtained a gun and shot at a tree at his Harrison Avenue home about 6:30 p.m.

But the bullet ricocheted off the tree and hit 4-year-old Roshaun Toombs in the left side of his head.

The injury was not life threatening, according to police.

Roshaun was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and had been released by Monday evening.

Police did not say how the boy got the firearm. The 8-year-old was charged with misdemeanor assault.

Driver assaulted before car is stolen

PRICE HILL - A passing motorist was assaulted and had his car vandalized and stolen late Sunday after a firecracker was thrown into his car.

Three people were arrested after the incident that occurred about 11:15 p.m. in the 1900 block of State Avenue, police said.

The motorist stopped his car after he was hit in the face and stunned by a firecracker that was thrown from a large group of people gathered along the street, police said.

Several people in the crowd then approached the driver and began to punch him and vandalize his vehicle.

Another person then drove off with the man's vehicle before police arrived.

Arrested were Thomas Curry, 23, of the 1900 block of State Avenue, who was charged with aggravated robbery and assault; Brian Curry, of Glenway Avenue; and Robert Cohorn, 23, of the 1900 block of State Avenue, charged with aggravated auto robbery.
