Boil-water order for homes near Ohio 122

Public safety briefs

FRANKLIN TWP. - A boil order for residents living along or near Ohio 122 that was supposed to start today will instead start Thursday.

Water will be shut off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as improvements are made in the area. After service resumes, the water should be boiled for at least two minutes, and residents should use bottled water for drinking and cooking.

The boil order affects residents on Ohio 122 from Moyer Drive to Shaker Road as well as those on Beatrice Drive, Connie Street, Barbara Drive, Sarah Street, Moder Court and parts of Robinson-Vail Road.

Husband faces charge after wife found beaten in hotel room

WEST CHESTER - A Liberty Township man is facing an attempted aggravated murder charge after police say he beat his wife on the head with a blunt instrument Friday evening.

Butler County Area Judge Robert Hendrickson ordered Chris Rezos, 35, held on $100,000 bond during a court appearance Tuesday. Rezos had been free on a $20,000 bond he posted Saturday. The judge agreed to allow Rezos to remain free on the $20,000 until 9 a.m. Wednesday, when he must post the additional bond or be jailed.

Rezos didn't speak during the hearing.

Police officers were called to a room at the Tri-County Inn at 10100 Princeton-Glendale Road shortly after 6 p.m. Friday for a domestic violence incident, West Chester Police Sgt. Erik Niehaus said. Rezos opened the room door, and officers found his wife, Amy, 35, semi-conscious on the floor. She was taken to Bethesda North Hospital. Her condition was not available.

Jerry Bryant, Rezos' attorney, said Rezos has a clean record and will plead not guilty at a preliminary hearing July 19.

Second pipe bomber gets 30 days, ordered to share in restitution

A Hamilton County Common Pleas judge Monday sentenced the second of two Anderson Township men who detonated pipe bombs at Anderson Township parks in February.

Michael Voorhees and Alex Hefren, 18, were convicted last month, each on a charge of vandalism.

Judge David Davis sentenced Hefren on Tuesday to 30 days in jail, three years on probation and to share in paying $18,000 in restitution. Voorhees had received the same sentence earlier.

The pipe bombs were detonated Feb. 7. The first device was set off at Veterans Park at 8531 Forest Road about 7:35 p.m., causing minor damage to a vending machine, Hamilton County sheriff's deputies said.

About two hours later, a pipe bomb was detonated at Kellogg Park, 6710 Kellogg Ave. That blast destroyed two vending machines and damaged a concession building, according to court records.

Three fathers indicted on charges of nonsupport totaling $76,000

LEBANON - A Warren County grand jury has indicted three men on charges of failing to pay more than $76,000 in child support.

James Adkins, 36, of South Lebanon; Danny Lee Farley, 35, of Columbus, and Dennis Wayne McCoy, 38, of Lebanon, are each facing felony charges of nonsupport of dependents. The indictments were handed up Friday and released Tuesday.

Each has missed at least 26 weeks of payments over 104 consecutive weeks, Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel said.

Adkins owes $23,109 to three children; Farley owes $36,196 to two children, and McCoy owes $17,147 to one child, authorities said.

Another homicide raises total to 41 in Cincinnati this year

OVER-THE-RHINE - Cincinnati police dealt with two homicides Tuesday - one an early morning shooting in Over-the-Rhine, and the other the death of a man shot two weeks ago.

Dontay Lamont Mahan, 24, of Avondale, was found lying in the street near 15th and Race streets about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. He'd been shot several times in the face. Less than an hour before, Farris Rayshawn Mitchell, 32, of South Cumminsville, died at University Hospital, where he had been since he was shot in Millvale June 24.

They were the 40th and 41st homicide victims in the city so far this year. That's almost 14 percent more than at this time in 2003, which turned out to be a record-setting year with 75 killings. That was the most Cincinnati had seen in 26 years.

Police said they had no suspects or witnesses in the Mahan killing. In Mitchell's shooting, they have charged a man, Dwight Sanders Jr.

They said Sanders was seen fleeing from the shooting scene in a tan, two-door Nissan. He was wanted on a charge of felonious assault, which had not yet been changed Tuesday afternoon after Mitchell's death.

Two men injured in fire on boat at Caesar Creek Lake

MASSIE TOWNSHIP - Two men were injured, one seriously, when their small pleasure boat caught fire Tuesday afternoon on Caesar Creek Lake in Warren County.

The boat was engulfed in flames a couple of hundred yards offshore when firefighters arrived at the lake in the Caesar Creek State Park, a Massie Township fire official said.

One man, who suffered serious burns, was taken by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. the fire official said. His condition was not available Tuesday night. The other man was treated for less serious burns at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Plane at Clermont airport crashes, injuring two on board

BATAVIA TWP. - Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a small plane crashed into a soybean field shortly after takeoff from the Clermont County Airport.

The Grumman AA-1 single-engine aircraft was unable to climb after takeoff and the pilot attempted to land in a field just south of the airport, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The wing of the aircraft struck the ground and the plane overturned.

The pilot, Kyle Webb III, 27, and Brady Webb, 24, both of Cincinnati, were taken to Clermont Mercy Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
