Cedar chest locks can be dangerous

Lane Home Furnishings is conducting an exchange for locks on thousands of cedar chests that could be dangerous for children. The airtight chests, made between 1912 and 1987 with the Lane and Virginia Maid brand names, lock when the lids are closed. Over the past 25 years, 12 children have died from unsupervised play in cedar chests. The new locks (or if desired, a decorative plate with no lock) are free for Lane or Virginia Made chest owners, who can call (888) 856-8758 or register at www.newlock.net.
