Merger will cost 58 Erlanger jobs

Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. has notified Kentucky officials it expects to eliminate the jobs of 58 employees assigned to its Erlanger sales and marketing office if its planned merger with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is completed. The sales and marketing office at 3940 Olympic Blvd. employs 62, though most of the salespeople work from home, the Louisville company said. Brown & Williamson said previously the $2.6 billion merger would mean the elimination or transfer of about 450 jobs in Kentucky.

Johnny Rockets, landlord settle

Johnny Rockets, the '50s-style burger diner, and its landlord at Newport on the Levee have called a truce in their legal fight. The restaurant sued Steiner & Associates for breach of contract in May. Steiner sued to evict Johnny Rockets for failing to pay rent. Agents for the two parties said Wednesday that they have settled the dispute out of court. Terms were not disclosed.
