Death sentence affirmed in killings
The Ohio Supreme Court voted 7-0 Wednesday to affirm the aggravated murder convictions and death sentence of Stanley Fitzpatrick for the June 2001 killings in Lincoln Heights of his girlfriend, Dorothea Hayes; her 12-year-old daughter, Shenay; and their neighbor, Elton Rose. Just after his trial began, Fitzpatrick, 36, of Lincoln Heights, said he wanted to plead guilty. As a compromise, the jury was dismissed and the court convened a panel of three Hamilton County Common Pleas Court judges to preside over the case. In February 2002, the panel convicted Fitzpatrick and sentenced him to die, according to court records. The Supreme Court ruled Fitzpatrick understood what he was doing by giving up the right to a jury trial.
