The Hamilton County Environmental Services Solid Waste Management District's four drop-off sites are accepting mixed paper for recycling from 9 a.m.-noon today.
The sites are Princeton High School, Sharonville; Western Hills Plaza behind the Kroger; Surrey Square Mall, Norwood; and the old Kroger parking lot in College Hill. Mixed paper includes cardboard, cereal boxes, beverage cases, junk mail, magazines, office paper, and newspaper. Information: www.hcdoes.org or 946-7734.
Kids get dose of college life
Ernest Britton, director of communications for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, will speak at a ceremony for 45 Cincinnati Public School students and their parents noon-2 p.m. Monday at the African American Cultural and Research Center. The seventh- and eighth-grade students completed a three-week enrichment camp at the University of Cincinnati as part of a year-long federal program that helps expose students to the experience of college.
Mayor headlines a.m. fund-raiser
Mayor Charlie Luken and the Cincinnati Recreation Commission are joining forces for the Mayor's Breakfast for Youth from 8-9:30 a.m. July 22 at Xavier University's Schiff Family Conference Center in the Cintas Center, 1624 Herald Ave. The breakfast benefits the Recreation Employment Corps, which provides job training for teens, and the Summer Playground program, which funds playground staff and programs.The Corporate Community Partnership Award will be presented to the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund for its partnership with the CRC in the development of the Reds Rookie Success League, a league for youths. Tax-deductible tickets are $100 per person or $700 per table. Reservations: Cathy Rafales at 352-2549.
