Governor: state police will 'reconsider' visible tattoo policy

FRANKFORT - Considering "cultural changes" in the population, Gov. Ernie Fletcher said Friday he's asked the Kentucky State Police to reconsider its policy prohibiting troopers from sporting visible tattoos.
The governor said he asked State Police Commissioner Mark Miller to review the agency's policy regarding tattoos on Friday morning. However, Fletcher did not definitively say what the policy's fate would be.
"I've asked them to reevaluate that and see," Fletcher told reporters at the Capitol. "Certainly, there's probably only one direction it could go if it were changed, and that's a relaxation."
The state police policy first was proposed in 2002 under former Gov. Paul Patton. Miller signed off on it days after taking the job in March.
