Harrison rally today


Neighbors digest

HARRISON - A downtown rally today organized by community activists will celebrate this western Hamilton County city.

The rally, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the gazebo on the corner of State Street and Harrison Avenue, is sponsored by Harrison Residents for Responsible Development.

Food, drinks and T-shirts will be given away.

MRI center opens

GREEN TOWNSHIP - A new magnetic resonance imaging center has opened along Cheviot Road in western Hamilton County.

Westside Medical Imaging, 5819 Cheviot Road, features an "open" MRI scanner made by Philips Medical Systems that can help reduce concerns for patients who may be claustrophobic, said medical director Dr. Steven Perlman.

Bike races in Loveland

LOVELAND - The Tour de Loveland will take place near City Hall and the Loveland Bike Trail 2-6 p.m. Sunday to benefit CancerFree Kids, a Loveland-based organization working to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

The event begins when riders 15-18 years old participate in one of two Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic races at 2 p.m. Other categories include men, women or children (10-14 years old); a kids' fun ride and an elite race for men with a $2,000 purse. Lemonade for levy

FAIRFIELD - Lemonade will be served - along with a pitch for the Fairfield Schools operating levy - each weekend through Aug. 1 at Fairfield businesses.

The "levy-nade" stands will be staffed by volunteers from Citizens for Fairfield Schools, a group working toward passage of the 6.9 mill operating levy.

Voters will be asked Aug. 3 to approve the levy, expected to raise about $9.1 million annually and increase taxes $211 each year on a $100,000 house.

The stands will be set up from noon to 2 p.m. at the following locations: today: Performance Acura, 5676 Dixie Highway; Sunday: Fairfield Bowling Lanes, 5181 Dixie Highway; July 17: Dixie Deli, 6687 Dixie Highway; July 18: Production Tool Rental, 5888 Dixie Highway; July 24: Papa John's Pizza, 5330 Dixie Highway.; July 25: Coldwell Banker, 765 Nilles Road.; July 31: Carpet Discounter, 6140 Pleasant Ave., and Aug. 1: Drew's Off Road Performance, 2610 Bobmeyer Road.

Contest for singers

MASON - Singers who are interested in participating in the Mason Idol competition during the Mason Heritage Festival may download applications at http://home.earthlink.net/~masonheritagefestival or call 755-0589.

The first 50 applicants in each age group (5-12, 13-18 and adult) will compete in two elimination rounds before the finals during the Aug. 28 festival. Entry fee is $5.
