Kids health fairs begin on Thursday

Two free children's heath and safety fairs sponsored by the nonprofit pediatric practice, Babies Milk Fund Pediatric Care, will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Seven Hills Neighborhood House, 901 Findlay St., West End, and July 20 at Victory Park, Montgomery Road and Mills Avenue, Norwood.

Both fairs will be staffed by volunteers from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Visitors include local firefighters and the Cincinnati Fire Department Smokehouse; police officers; the Cincinnati Reds' Bat Mobile; zoo animals; and a balloon sculptor. Eatery proceeds to aid leukemia

A restaurant with several area locations will donate proceeds from its sales today to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Participating locations include Kenwood Galleria, 8118 Montgomery Road; downtown, Seventh and Walnut streets; Harper's Station, 11301 Montgomery Road; Rookwood Pavilion, 2692 Madison Road; Princeton Plaza, 80 W. Kemper; and RiverCenter, 50 East RiverCenter Blvd., Covington. About 75 percent of the society's expenses are directed to research, patient and community services, advocacy and education.

Elder abuse topic of training

Florence Police will hold a training session on how to spot elder abuse for area police, fire, emergency service personnel and other groups such as chaplains who visit or provide care to the elderly. Later, there may be a class open to the public, said Florence Lt. Tim Chesser. The training will be from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 10 at the Florence Government Center, 8100 Ewing Blvd. The class will cover how to spot abuse, involuntary hospitalization, fraud and scams, available resources and the rights of the elderly.
