FAIRVIEW - Ruth Marion Schoenling, one of the daughters of the founders of the Schoenling Brewing Co., died Friday at Mercy Franciscan Terrace in Mount Airy. The lifelong Fairview resident was 86.
"She was a very independent woman and very actively involved with the Wyoming Presbyterian Church," said her cousin, William Schoenling Jr. of Palm Harbor, Fla.
Ms. Schoenling's father, the late George Schoenling, and his family founded the Schoenling Brewing Co. in 1933. Schoenling and Hudepohl merged in 1986. In 1999, the company and its brands were sold to Snyder International Brewing Group.
Raised on Fairview Avenue, where she lived her entire life, Ms. Schoenling graduated from Hughes High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati's College of Business.
She worked as a medical secretary for Kettering Laboratories until her retirement, and for more than three decades volunteered at Deaconess Hospital in Clifton.
Surviving are several other cousins.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6041 Hamilton Ave., College Hill. Service will follow.
Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Winton Place.
