Andrews two shots off Giant Eagle lead
Roundup of other golf this weekend
The Associated Press
VIENNA, Ohio - Gloria Park had 10 birdies in a 6-under 66 and held a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic at Squaw Creek Country Club.
Young-A Yang had a 67 and Donna Andrews was another stroke back.
Andrews, 37, was playing in just her second event in 10 weeks because of a dislocated right shoulder, which happened while trying to pull apart two fighting dogs. Andrews had the same injury in 1999 when she was thrown off a horse.
"I couldn't live life without my four-legged critters," Andrews said. "It's not an option. I've been injured so much during my career anyways I think my (name) is Donna 'Rehab' Andrews'."
B.C. OPEN: Jonathan Byrd had nine birdies in a 7-under 65 that gave him a one-shot lead after two rounds in Endicott, N.Y.
Daniel Chopra and John Morgan, who lost in a playoff last week at the John Deere Classic, were tied for second at 11-under 133. Chopra had a 65 and Morgan a 68.
Milford native Bob Lohr, making a rare appearance on the PGA Tour in recent years, missed the cut with a 165 (89-79).
USGA PUBLINX: Dayton Rose advanced to the championship match of the U.S. Amateur Public Links for a second straight year. He will meet 2002 champion Ryan Moore for the title today in the 36-hole final in Maple Grove, Minn.
OHIO AMATEUR: Kyle Reifers birdied six of the first 13 holes and shot the day's low round with a 67 to win the 98th edition by three strokes at Columbus Country Club. Reifers, 20, will be a sophomore at Wake Forest, where he is No. 2 on the Demon Deacons.
CELEBRITY EVENT: Former NHL player Dan Quinn, a three-time champion, and ex-NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver each had 25 points and shared the first-round lead in the American Century tournament, using the modified Stableford scoring system, at Lake Tahoe.
